There’s no doubt Popeyes is one of the most popular fast food fried chicken restaurants, known for its delicious seasoned chicken and tasty biscuits. It’s not surprising when someone says that Popeyes is their favorite place to get fried chicken on the go, but many other fried chicken spots are worth trying as well. Move over Popeyes–if you’re looking to try something different, check out these fried chicken spots that top my list.

What to try

When you’re eating at Church’s, you won’t be disappointed with any of their meals, whether you choose the spicy chicken or the original. As far as sides go, don’t miss out on the Jalapeño Cheese Bombers®, fried okra, or the honey-butter biscuits.

Bojangles

Based on the name, it’s easy to tell that Bojangles Famous Chicken and Biscuits is known for its tasty fried chicken and flaky, buttery biscuits. The first Bojangles was opened in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1977.

What to try

Bojangles has plenty of options to choose from, including their Bo Favorites, Boneless Chicken Favorites, and their delicious chicken sandwiches. One of the most popular options is the biscuit sandwich, such as the Cajun Chicken Filet Biscuit. You can also keep it simple with a Chicken Supreme Combo, which includes chicken tender, a biscuit, and a drink.

Slim Chickens

Slim Chickens is a fast food chain that specializes in fried chicken and Southern sides. They prioritize the quality of their chicken and every chicken item on their menu is made with 100% natural premium tenders.

What to try

Slim Chickens has a lot of fun options that aren’t available at other places, such as their Chicken & Waffles. This menu item includes three fried chicken tenders served over a waffle with syrup and butter. You also can’t leave without trying one of their desserts in a jar, such as their Chocolate Brownie Pudding Jar Dessert.

Chick-fil-A

Some will claim there are many places better than Chick-fil-A, but it will always top my list of the best fried chicken restaurants. From their original Chick-fil-A sandwich to their delicious and salty waffle fries, it’s a classic choice no matter what you’re in the mood for.

You can’t go wrong with the original Chick-fil-A sandwich, but their chicken strips and chicken nuggets are also a great choice. If you order a side of waffle fries, don’t forget to ask for some of their signature Chick-fil-A sauce for dipping.

KFC

Even though there are plenty of fried chicken restaurants out there, KFC was the first to become famous for serving fried chicken. Instead of serving burgers or sandwiches, KFC made fast food fried chicken popular by offering family-style meals.

What to try

If you’re going to try a meal from KFC, you have to go all out. Their family meals come with a bucket of fried chicken and some of their delicious sides. You can choose from options like mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, coleslaw, and sweet corn. Whatever you choose, don’t forget a side of biscuits as well.

Raising Cane’s

The original Raising Cane’s opened in Baton Rogue, Louisiana in 1996. Since then, it’s become one of the top fried chicken restaurants in the country with more than 800 locations. This casual chain is known for its chicken fingers and tasty fries.

What to try

You can get all the things you love when you order a combo at Raising Cane’s. The Box Combo comes with four chicken fingers, Texas toast, coleslaw, and crinkle-cut fries. There’s also plenty of Cane’s sauce for dipping your chicken fingers and fries.

Chicken Guy

Chicken Guy is a restaurant founded by celebrity chef Guy Fieri and Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl. There are over 20 locations of this fried chicken restaurant, known for its chicken tenders that are brined in fresh lemon juice, pickle brine, and buttermilk.

What to try

Chicken Guy offers a variety of menu items from their original chicken tenders to crispy or grilled chicken sandwiches. One of the best choices on the menu is the three tenders combo. This entree comes with Guy’s original, hot, or grilled tenders and your choice of two signature sauces.

Guthrie’s

Guthrie’s first opened in Alabama but now there are over 60 locations in 12 different states. This chain is one of the best places out there to get some delicious fried chicken fingers, sweet tea, and fries.

What to try

If you’ve never been to a Guthrie’s before, you have to try one of their boxes to get the full experience. The “Gut Box,” includes a large portion of chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, and Texas toast. It also comes with their signature sauce for dipping.
